According to the legal norms of the Salzburg Nature Conservation Act , valuable trees, but also small moors and streams and their immediate surroundings are to be designated as protected parts of the landscape if they have special features due to their special flora and fauna, but also their special appearance or their old age Represent nature.

The Anifer Alterbach rises in the Anifer Castle pond or in a marsh meadow and runs west through mixed forest and crosses the Alpine road before it flows into the Salzach a little upstream of the Hellbrunn Bridge.
