Special protection area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Special protection area is a strict protection category in the Hohe Tauern National Park in the federal states of Salzburg and Carinthia . In Tyrol , this protection category also exists outside the national park. Any interference with nature is prohibited in special protection areas.

There are currently eight such protected areas in Austria (see list below).

The special protection area in the national park laws

  • Carinthia: The term is defined by Section 7 of the Carinthian National Park and Biosphere Park Act (K-NBG) specifically for "small-scale areas of special scientific interest or special ecological importance located in the national park". "In special protection areas, any interference with nature and the natural balance as well as any impairment of the landscape is prohibited." (§ 7 Z.2 K-NBG) The designation "special protection area" is expressly protected in § 35 K-NBG.
  • Salzburg: Special protection areas are a regulation of the Salzburg National Park Act , which covers "areas located in the outer zone or in the core zone [of the national park, note] in order to fully preserve their scenic or ecological importance, including their flora and fauna" ( § 22 ). These are planned as a dynamic protected area concept with long-term objectives and are to be extended to other areas.
  • Tyrol: Section 22 of the Tyrolean Nature Conservation Act 2005 (TNSchG 2005) regulates this type of protection. It serves as a particularly strict protection category, and because it is anchored as a general protection category of the Nature Conservation Act, it is handled somewhat differently than the categories of Salzburg and Carinthia, which are restricted to national parks. But the intention is the same.

In Salzburg, the declaration of a special protection area is only provided “with the express consent of the landowners in question and those with significantly impaired rights” (Section 22 S-NPG), in Carinthia “with the consent of the landowners” (Section 7, line 1 K- NBG). In Tyrol, exceptions are provided for scientific research , certain measures of the " usual " agricultural and forestry use, as well as hunting and fishing , similar to nature reserves , but handled more strictly.
On the other hand, an entry ban can also be issued: "Conventional hiking, mountaineering and ski touring as well as measures that provide orientation" are permitted in the Großglockner – Pasterze area ( Section 8 of the National Park Ordinance ), but "leaving these paths [Gamsgrubenweg and two marked alpine paths, note], grazing and letting dogs run free ”is prohibited in the Gamsgrube ( § 9 ).
