Rietz is a municipality with 2367 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Imst district ( Silz judicial district ) in Tyrol ( Austria ).

geography

Rietz is located in the Oberinntal , about 30 km west of Innsbruck , between Telfs and Imst . The municipality extends from the Inn to the 2884 m high Rietzer Grießkogel in the Stubai Alps . Since the Stubai Alps are so high, the residents of Rietz have no sun in winter (three weeks to three months depending on the location).

The loosely built-up village on the eastern border of the Imst district lies on the muddy cone of the Rietzer Bach. To the north of the Inn, there is a nature reserve in the municipality of Rietz and Mieming .

Community structure

Rietz consists of a single cadastral community or town of the same name .

history

The spelling of the place name, which is of Illyrian origin, changed in the course of history between Riets, Rietsch, Riecz, Ryetsch and Rietz. Rietz was first mentioned in a document in 1264. Rietz formed its own “community”, as a tax list says, as early as 1325. Up to 1282 Rietz belonged to the county of Hörtenberg, then to the Petersberg court near Silz.

Population development

Lately the community has seen a strong influx.

coat of arms

In 1965 the Tyrolean provincial government gave the municipality a municipal coat of arms.
Blazon :

"Two intertwined Gothic churches in silver on a green background and a baroque church above them in frontal view."

The coat of arms indicates the peculiarity that there are three churches in the community (parish church, cruciform church, pilgrimage church).
