Heinrich Kluibenschedl (also Kluibenschädl ; born March 3, 1849 in Rietz in Tyrol ; † November 29, 1929 there ) was an Austrian painter and restorer . He is considered the last representative of the Nazarene style in Tyrol .

Life

Heinrich Kluibenschedl was the son of the picture and barrel painter and house painter Josef Kluibenschedl. He received his first instruction from his father. In 1865 he was an apprentice in a company Fr. Kirchstätter. From 1866 he attended the Innsbruck trade school. During the holidays he learned the technique of frescoes from the church painter Franz Plattner . After the death of his father in 1869 he took over his father's business.

From 1872 to 1914 he provided numerous churches in Tyrol with wall and ceiling paintings, with the accompanying church restorations often taking place under the direction of his friend, the history painter Albrecht Steiner von Felsburg , for example in the Maria Himmelfahrt parish church in Kaltern . His main work are the wall and ceiling paintings in the parish church of Silz in Silz . But he also created stations of the cross and war memorials .

The profane Lüftlmalerei was his profession. Examples of this are his birthplace and home in Rietz and the “Gasthaus zum Stern” in Oetz , where he restored the paintings from the 17th century in 1912.

He was also interested in photography. He was friends with the Innsbruck- based photography pioneer Heinrich Kühn . There are around 250 photo plates in his estate.

At the age of 75, Kluibenschedl held a course on fresco painting on behalf of the Vienna Academy in Innsbruck. In the same year, 1925, his book on practical instructions for fresco painting was published. In 1926 his Tyrolean Christmas crib with 57 figures and 37 animals to be cut out went to print, using his own frescoes on the Christmas theme in the parish church in Oetz as a model. This crib is still on sale today.

From 1873 until his death, Heinrich Kluibenschedl documented his life in diaries.

His birthplace in Rietz, which is now a local history museum, has had a memorial plaque to him since 1980, and the street on which it stands is named after Kluibenschedl.
