List of European protected areas in Tyrol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Tyrol there are 13  European protected areas with a total area of 1,830  km² . The European protected areas ( Natura 2000 areas ) make up about 15% of the area of the federal state of Tyrol . They are consistently protected by state law; a total of two thirds of the state protected areas are also areas of Community importance ( FFH areas ) or European bird protection areas .

The Natura 2000 areas in Tyrolean nature conservation law

Through the two European nature conservation directives , the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive (92/43 / EEC) and the Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds (Birds Directive, 79/409 / EEC), Austria is obliged to use areas that are for the Community environmental protection of the European Union are of interest. These are then considered to be "proposed" ( proposed Site of Community Importance ... pSCI) and are then confirmed by the EU, entered in a joint list and integrated into the Natura 2000 network (as areas of community importance according to the Habitats Directive ... SCI, SAC and as special protection areas according to the Birds Directive ... SPA - the latter do not need express confirmation). A joint list of FFH areas for the Alpine region ( Alpine Convention area ) was decided on January 25, 2008.

The report to the European Commission was initially made directly by the federal states, in 2003 Austria created a joint national list , and since then individual areas have been named by the state governments.

It is then up to the Member States to select suitable protective instruments. In Austria, where nature conservation is regulated at the state level , this is consistently one of the state protection categories . For this reason, almost all European protected areas in Tyrol are otherwise designated, only two smaller areas - totaling 450  hectares , that is 0.15% - not.

The special provisions for Natura 2000 areas are anchored in Section 14 of the Tyrolean Nature Conservation Act 2005 (TNSchG 2005). The respective conservation objectives are determined by ordinance , generally the special protection of the priority species and habitats named in the annexes to the EU directives ( Section 3 (9) line 9 TNSchG) , and the intended "restoration" (Section 14 Paragraph 3a) and "achieving a favorable conservation status" (§ 14 Paragraph 3b), as well as the necessary conservation measures (management plans). They are announced in the State Law Gazette , the plans in the messenger for Tyrol .

Furthermore, the nature conservation law approval ( impact assessment ) of "plans or projects (plans) that are not directly related to the management of the Natura 2000 area or are not necessary for this, but which such an area individually or in cooperation with may significantly affect other plans or projects ", received (§ 14 Paragraph 4 ff.) and" Interventions, uses and other actions that can lead to a deterioration of the natural habitats and habitats of the species in the Natura 2000 areas "are prohibited (Section 14 (9)).

  3. Although in Austria over 20% of the country's area is already under protection, the European Commission “after examining all areas proposed by Austria is of the opinion that there must be additional areas to cover all habitats and species both in the alpine region and in the continental region. ”(Quotation from Weblink Natura 2000 Tirol , Paragraph Further Need for Action ) There are still some Important Bird Areas of BirdLife International without national / Community protection
