Story and purpose

In order to secure the particularly high value of the unique landscape in the south of the city of Salzburg, the green space of Hellbrunn Palace between the Fürstenweg, the Salzach and the Anifer Landesstrasse, including a 100 m wide strip on both sides of the Hellbrunner Allee (to Freisaal Palace ), was declared a landscape protection area and got the name Hellbrunn Landscape Protection Area . After this protected area was expanded in 1975, it was renamed Salzburg-Süd . The current legal situation is based on a decision of December 1, 1981.

The protection purpose of the landscape protection area today is "the preservation of the particular scenic beauty of the green space in the south of the city of Salzburg, the small-scale, structured meadow and forest landscape with its castles (Hellbrunn Palace as the center), the old parks and the old avenues and rows of trees that extend from them" and " the preservation of the particularly high recreational value of the cultural landscape, which is unique due to its various landscape elements and cultural-historical importance ”.
