politics
As is generally the case in rural areas of northern Finland, the Center Party is the strongest political force in Posio . In the local elections in 2008 it received over half of the votes, in the parliamentary elections in 2007 it was almost 70%. In the municipal council, the highest decision-making body in local affairs, it has 15 of 27 members. The second largest faction is the local electoral list Ryhmä 2008 Yhteislista with eight seats. The Social Democrats and the Left Alliance only achieved single-digit results and two seats each, while the conservative National Collection Party, one of Finland's three people's parties, did not even run for election.
