politics

As in general in the rural areas of northern Finland, the Center Party is the strongest political force in Simo . In the 2008 local elections it received just over half of the votes and has an absolute majority in the local council, the highest decision-making body on local matters, with 12 out of 21 seats. The second strongest force is the Left Alliance , which, as in general, is disproportionately strong in Lapland. It received a quarter of the votes and has five seats on the local council. The Social Democrats and the National Collection Party , although belonging to the three major parties nationwide, hardly play a marginal role in Simo with election results of ten percent and two members each in the local council. The Communist Party continued to run in Simo, but failed to make it into the local council.
