The Sillianer Hütte (which is still partly run as Viktor-Hinterberger-Hütte ) is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the Sillian section of the ÖAV on the Carnic Main Ridge. It serves as a base hut for the Austrian Southern Alps long-distance hiking trail 03 , the European long-distance hiking trail 10 and the Via Alpina .

The Sillianer Hütte is the westernmost refuge of the Carnic Main Ridge, forms the starting point and end point of the Carnic High Trail and is a base of the Friedensweg . The hut is only a few meters from the Austrian- Italian border, 100 meters above the Füllhornsattels.
history
The first refuge that the Sillian Alpine Club section built was the Helmhütte , the ruins of which are still on the Helm summit . It went to Italy after the First World War through the Treaty of St. Germain , in which a border shift was decided. The Sillian Section was compensated for the loss by the State Treaty of Venice in 1925. As an alternative, the association bought a building site in 1930 in Volkzein, which belongs to the rear Winkeltal ( Villgratental ), and built the first hut there with the name Sillianer Hütte . Six years later, the Austria Section built the Viktor-Hinterberger-Hütte on the Carnic Main Ridge at 2,390 meters . This was opened on August 16, 1936 and operated by the Austria Section until 1981.
Since the Sillian section wanted to return to the Carnic Main Ridge, it acquired the Viktor-Hinterberger-Hütte after a resolution by the annual general meeting in 1981. At the same time, the Sillianer Hütte in the Villgrater Mountains was sold. The new owner called it the Volkzeiner Hut .
The Viktor-Hinterberger-Hütte was in a very bad condition, whereupon the board decided to build a new one. From 1982 to 1986 construction was advanced above the Hinterberger hut at a cost of around 7.5 million ATS (~ 545,000 EUR ). The Sillianer Hütte was officially opened on August 31, 1986 . The desolate Hinterberger hut was demolished in 1988.
In 2018 the hut was extensively rebuilt and expanded to cope with the increased number of visitors. The new hut opened on July 1, 2019.
Approaches
The following ascents are possible to the Sillianer Hütte:
- Directly from Sillian (1100 m) in a walking time of 4 hours over the Forcher Kaser.
- Directly from Sillian (1100 m) in a walking time of 4 hours over the Leckfeldalm.
- From Arnbach (1103 m) (Weitlanbrunn) also in 4 hours via the Leckfeldalm or the pan.
- From Sexten (1375 m) in 3 hours.
- After driving up to the Leckfeldalm by car in a walking time of 1.5 hours.
- After ascent with the Sexten mountain railway from the mountain station (2052 m) in 1.75 hours.
- After ascent with the Vierschach mountain railway from the mountain station (2045 m) again in 1.75 hours.
