The Mitterkar bivouac is a refuge of the Alpenverein Austria section of the PES in the Carnic Alps . The hut, located at an altitude of 1973 m meters, was built in 1976/1980 and is only used as emergency accommodation on the Carnic High Trail . Although it is classified as AV hut category I, it is not managed and due to its very low overnight capacity with six mattress beds, it is not suitable as a regular stage base.
