Anton Schott

Anton Schott (born February 8, 1866 in Kohlheim , Bohemia ; † April 4, 1945 on his property in Hub near Mettmach , Upper Austria ) was an Austrian writer .

Life

Anton Schott, the son of a penniless weaver , attended secondary school in Pilsen for two years after an irregular elementary school education . At the age of 15 he got his first job as a clerk with a lawyer in Neuern . After intensive self-study already working as a provisional sub-teacher in 1883, he first passed the Matura , then the teacher qualification test at the teacher training institute in Prague . During his studies he was a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Ferdinandea . Schott worked as a primary school teacher until the mid-1890s , before settling down as a freelance writer, first in Hinterhäuser in Bohemia, and later on his estate in Bergham near Linz . Impoverished by post - war inflation , he had to move to Sipbachzell in 1921 and to Peuerbach in 1924 . In 1929 he acquired the Hub property near Mettmach, where he died in 1945 at the age of 79.

Among other things, Anton Schott received the Prize of the German Literature Society in 1901 and the 2nd Prize of the Herder Verlag in 1923 . In 1929 he refused to be awarded the Silver Medal of Honor by the Republic of Austria . His literary work includes short stories , short stories and historical novels that focus on rural life in his homeland, the Bohemian Forest.
