Nikolaos Vokos ( Greek Νικόλαος Βώκος , * 1854 on Hydra ; † August 7, 1902 in Paleo Faliro ) was a Greek painter and sculptor and representative of the Munich School .

Life

Nikolaos Vokos was born on Hydra, his father was Emmanouil Miaoulis, his grandfather Andreas Miaoulis , both very well known admirals. After a short time at a cadet school, Nikolaos Vokos preferred to study art. He also did not take the nickname "Miaoulis", but took his official surname "Vokos". After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens , he went to Munich, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts there in the classes of Andreas Müller , Ludwig Löfftz and Nikolaos Gysis . After graduating, he worked in Munich for 16 years and after a serious illness went to Athens, where he died in the suburb of Paleo Faliro .

Vokos painted almost exclusively still lifes , in terms of quantity he left only a few works and only took part in a few exhibitions. He avoided painting people, although these works are considered his most important. The work of the "fish sellers" was bought by Prince Regent Luitpold after it had previously won an award in Chicago.
