Synagogue (Scherwiller)
The synagogue in Scherwiller , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region , was built in 1861/62. The secular synagogue on Rue du Giessen has been classified as a Monument historique since 1985 .
The synagogue was built according to plans by the architect Antoineringenisen . During the German occupation in World War II , the building was used as accommodation for Polish slave laborers.
After 1945 the building was used as a synagogue again. In 1963 the synagogue building was sold to the city and it has been used as a fire station ever since .
