The synagogue in Pfaffenhoffen , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region , was built in 1791. The synagogue , which has been a listed monument ( Monument historique ) since 1992, is located on Rue du Temple .

history

The synagogues of Pfaffenhoffen and von Mutzig (built in 1787) are the only remaining synagogues in Alsace that were built during the Ancien Régime . From the outside, the synagogue does not differ from the neighboring houses, only the Hebrew inscription on the lintel indicates this.

A room on the ground floor can still be viewed today, which was intended for Jews passing through . There is also an old kitchen. The prayer room is on the first floor, with the women's area separated by a privacy screen . The Torah shrine is framed by a polychrome frame.

The synagogue and the local museum ( Musée de l'image populaire de Pfaffenhoffen ) will be visited.
