Former synagogue in Odratzheim

The synagogue of Odratzheim , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the historic Alsace region , is a secular synagogue that is now used for cultural purposes. It is located on Rue de l'Église.

history

The Jewish community of Odratzheim built a synagogue as early as 1730. Since it had become too small for the growing community, it was expanded in 1819. During the German occupation in World War II , the synagogue was set on fire and given to the political community in 1941. She sold this in 1968 to a private individual who used it as a barn .

Today the former synagogue building has been renovated and is used for cultural purposes. The arched windows on the eaves sides and the oculus on the gable side still remind of the building's past as a synagogue.
