Synagogue (Westhoffen)
The synagogue in Westhoffen , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region , was built in 1876. The synagogue on the Place de la Synagogue has been classified as a Monument historique since 1990 .
description
The synagogue, built from local sandstone , was consecrated in 1876 . Presumably it was built on the site of an older synagogue. The tablets of the law stand on the top of the gable . The building consists of a longitudinal nave with four zygomatic arches and a portal that is decorated with oriental style elements.
The neo-Romanesque synagogue was plundered but not destroyed during the German occupation in World War II.
