Synagogue (Hochfelden)
The Synagogue of Hochfelden is a former place of worship in the French community of Hochfelden in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region . It was built in 1841. The synagogue with the address No. 10/12 Place du Général-Koenig has been protected as an architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1996 .
history
The first synagogue in Hochfelden was built in the 17th century, it was replaced in 1841 by a new building based on plans by Louis Furst . Above the portal there is the following inscription in Hebrew : "This is the gate to the Eternal, through it the righteous enter" ( Psalm 118 : 29)
Todays use
A local history museum has been set up in the former synagogue since 2002 , in which parts of the former synagogue can also be seen, such as the Torah shrine and the lectern . In the basement of the adjacent former Jewish school building that can mikveh be visited.
