Charly Grosskost
Charly Grosskost (born March 5, 1944 in Eckbolsheim , † June 19, 2004 in Strasbourg ) was a French cyclist .
As an amateur, Charly Grosskost won the Route de France in 1965 , which was designed as an amateur version of the Tour de France . He started as the favorite at the Tour de l'Avenir , but had to retire due to health problems, apparently due to doping . After a doping test, he was initially to be banned for life, and finally the ban was reduced to six months. Until his death, Grosskost claimed to have been unknowingly doped.
From 1966 to 1974 Charly Grosskost was a professional racing driver. During these years he was French champion nine times in the omnium and in the single pursuit on the track . At the UCI World Championships in 1967 he was again tested positive for doping agents and excluded from the world championship. He celebrated particular success in 1968 when he won the prologues of the Tour de France , the Giro d'Italia and Paris – Nice in one year . In total, he started the tour five times, for several years in the same team as Jacques Anquetil . In 1970 Grosskost won the bronze medal in the single pursuit at the World Railroad Championships , and in 1971 silver.
