Šimonovce (Hungarian Simonyi or Rimasimonyi ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 562 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is part of the Gemer region .
geography
The village is located in the Rimavská kotlina basin (part of Juhoslovenská kotlina ), on the terrace of the Rimava and Mačací potok . The center of the village is at an altitude of 179 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring municipalities are Širkovce in the west and north, Dubovec in the northeast, Chrámec in the east and Drňa in the south
history
The place was founded in the 12th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1221 as Simon . The village was initially owned by the Lórantfy family , later Rákóczi , and in the 18th century Vass and other families. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the village suffered from Turkish raids, part of the population was taken prisoner while others had to pay tribute. In 1710 and 1740 there were plague epidemics. In 1828 there were 65 houses and 521 residents who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1944 it belonged again to Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Šimonovce had 571 inhabitants, including 319 Magyars , 154 Roma , 68 Slovaks and one Moravian . Nine residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
378 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 109 residents to the Reformed Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Greek Catholic Church. 11 residents had no denomination and 68 residents had no denomination.
Buildings and monuments
- Reformed tolerance church from 1790, which was built on the foundations of an older church. The tower was only built in 1858.
