Gemerský Jablonec (1927-48 Slovak "Almáď" - until 1927 "Jablonica"; Hungarian Almágy or Gömöralmágy ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia with 704 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is part of the Gemer landscape .
geography
The community is located in the middle of the Cerová vrchovina mountains in a valley on the upper reaches of the Gortva . The center of the village is at an altitude of 240 m nm and is 18 kilometers from Fiľakovo and 35 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring municipalities are Hajnáčka in the west and north, Gemerské Dechtáre in the northeast, Dubno in the east, Petrovce and Cered (H) in the southeast, Nová Bašta in the south and Stará Bašta in the southwest.
history
Gemerský Jablonec as a place emerged in the 11th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1275 as Almag . In the 13th and 14th centuries, the places Petrovec and Utas separated. After 1553 the place was subject to tribute to the Ottoman Empire , in the 17th century local farmers fled because of the Turkish wars and oppression by the then owner A. Vay. In 1828 there were 59 houses and 541 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1944 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, there were 693 residents in Gemerský Jablonec, including 536 Magyars, 77 Slovaks, 54 Roma, 4 Czechs and 1 Moravian. 21 residents gave no information on ethnicity.
639 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 12 residents the Reformed Church, 4 residents the Evangelical Methodist Church and 2 residents each for the Evangelical Church AB and the Pentecostal movement. 3 residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 31 residents was not determined.
Buildings
- Roman Catholic church in the Romanesque style from the 13th century, which stands on a hill above the village and bears the patronage of St. Abdon and Sennen, which is rare in Slovakia

Gemerský Jablonec is located at the intersection of several 3rd order streets from Hajnáčka, Petrovce and Nová Bašta. The connection to the 2nd order road 571 near Hajnáčka is six and a half kilometers away.
The nearest train station is Hajnáčka on the Bánréve – Fiľakovo railway line (part of the course book route 160 there) 7.5 kilometers away, with several pairs of local trains every day. There is a connection to express trains at the Fiľakovo and Jesenské stations (information as of 2015 timetable).
