Abovce (Hungarian Abafalva ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia with 626 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj and is part of the Gemer region .
geography
The municipality is located in the southeast of the Rimavská kotlina basin (part of the Juhoslovenská kotlina ) on the left bank of the Slaná . The center of the village is at an altitude of 159 m nm and is nine kilometers from Putnok (H), 13 kilometers from Tornaľa and 30 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring municipalities are Kráľ in the north, Serényfalva (H) in the northeast, Bánréve (H) in the east and southeast, Lenartovce in the southwest and Chanava in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1339 as Abafalwa and is the ancestral seat of the Abaffy family . In 1427 a total of 27 portals are listed in a tax register. In the time of the Turkish wars , the village had to pay tribute to the Ottomans, such as in 1566. Because of several plague epidemics in the early 18th century, the village had to be resettled. In 1828 there were 66 houses and 480 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and fruit growing.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1945 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Abovce had 593 inhabitants, including 397 Magyars, 135 Slovaks and 46 Roma. 15 residents gave no answer. 435 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 86 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 22 residents to the Reformed Church, five residents to the Congregational Church, three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church. 21 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 18 residents was not determined.

At Abovce, 2nd order road 571 ( Fiľakovo - Jesenské –Abovce) ends at 1st order road 67 , not far from the Kráľ – Bánréve border crossing .
The place is located on the Bánréve – Rožňava railway line and at the end of the Lenartovce connecting arch . However, trains no longer stop at the stop, the nearest stations with express train connections are in Tornaľa, Číž and Jesenské (as of the 2014/2015 timetable).
