Kyjatice (until 1927 Slovak "Kijatice"; Hungarian Kiéte - until 1907 Kiette ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 76 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which lies in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is located in the Landscape Gemer is counted.
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains , between the valleys of the Papča brook and the Blh river . The center of the village is at an altitude of 465 m nm and is 21 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring municipalities are Hnúšťa (district Brádno ) in the north, Hrušovo (district Striežovce ) in the east, Lukovištia in the south, Babinec in the west and Rimavské Brezovo and again Hnúšťa in the northwest.
history
Almost 200 fire pit graves were found in the Kyjatice municipality . Abundant finds there gave the Kyjatice culture (approx. 1100 BC to 700 BC, Late Bronze Age ) its name.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1413 as Kyethe and was then owned by the Derencsényi family , who had 14 portals here in 1427 . In the 16th and 17th centuries, the village was owned by the Lórantfy and Rákoczi families ; in the 18th century it was under the rule of Muráň Castle and was at times owned by the nobility. Around 1560 Kyjatice was devastated by Ottoman troops. In 1828 there were 27 houses and 226 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and manufacturers of wooden objects in the home trade.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Kyjatice had 90 inhabitants, 76 of whom were Slovaks and four were Roma . 10 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
30 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 27 residents for the Evangelical Church AB, 17 residents were non-denominational, and the denomination of 16 residents was not determined.
Buildings and monuments
- Protestant church in mixed Romanesque-Gothic style from the 13th century, rebuilt in the 15th century. The interior houses Gothic wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries, the painted Renaissance coffered ceiling from 1637 and the Renaissance altar from 1678.
