Hubovo (Hungarian Hubó ) is a municipality in the middle of Slovakia with 132 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of Banskobystrický kraj and is part of the Gemer region .
geography
The community is located at the transition from the Rimavská kotlina basin to the hilly Bodvianska pahorkatina in the gentle Hubovský potok valley in the Slaná catchment area , near the state border with Hungary . The town center is located at an altitude of 238 m nm and is eight kilometers from Tornaľa and 31 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring communities are Szuhafő in the east, Gömörszőlős in the southeast, Neporadza and Kesovce in the south, Lenka in the west and Tornaľa in the northwest and north.
history
Hubovo was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1235 as Habon , later names handed down include Hubouu (1323), Hubow or Hwba (1449) and Hubo (1808). The place arose in the 11th century on the dominion of the nearby Castle Gemer, the residents were exempt from subordinate duties. In 1411 the village came into the possession of the landed gentry, owners were among others the families Hubay , Szuhay and Kasza . In 1828 there were 67 houses and 622 residents who were employed as farmers and winemakers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1944 it belonged again to Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, there were 142 inhabitants in Hubovo, including 119 Magyars , 14 Slovaks , three Roma and two Czechs . 11 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
79 residents supported the Reformed Church, 17 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, four residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, two residents each for the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident for the Greek Catholic Church. 18 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 19 residents was not determined.
