Figa (Hungarian Füge or Gömörfüge ) is a municipality in the south-central part of Slovakia with 459 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is part of the Gemer region .
geography
The municipality is located in the east of the Rimavská kotlina basin , part of the larger unit Juhoslovenská kotlina , in the valley of the Kaloša brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 196 m nm and is eight kilometers from Tornaľa and 20 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring municipalities are Žiar in the north, Stránska in the east, Rumince in the south, Barca in the west and Kaloša in the west and northwest.
history
The place was built in the 10th and 11th centuries and was named after the old Hungarian Füi family , who received the surrounding land as a reward from Stephen I the Holy . Figa was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1294 (other sources 1244) as Fygey and at that time it was divided into two parts: Alsófüge and Felsőfüge , which were only merged again in the 19th century. During the Turkish wars , many residents left the place. In 1828 there were 70 houses and 579 inhabitants, 40 of them noblemen. The traditional main source of income was and is agriculture.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1944 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .
As part of the Czechoslovak-Hungarian population exchange, Slovak families from Hungary came to Figa in 1947. In 1952 the LPG was founded.

According to the 2011 census, Figa had 418 inhabitants, including 176 Magyars, 171 Slovaks, 44 Roma and 2 Czechs. 25 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity.
217 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 25 residents to the Reformed Church, 11 residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, 8 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and 1 resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Greek Catholic Church; 1 resident confessed to another denomination. 126 residents had no denomination and 29 residents had no denomination.

traffic
The 1st order road 50 runs through Figa between Rimavská Sobota and Tornaľa. A bypass on the R2 expressway has been in operation since 2008 .
The nearest train station is Tornaľa on the Bánréve – Dobšiná railway line (here part of route 160), eight kilometers away.
