Eduard Kojnok
Eduard Kojnok (born August 14, 1933 in Veľká Suchá, today part of Hrnčiarska Ves ; † October 27, 2011 in Rožňava (Rosenau)) was a Slovak clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Rožňava .
Life
Eduard Kojnok received in the June 24, 1956 Bratislava , the ordination . In 1956 he was a chaplain in Breznička (Kleinbresnitz) and was obliged to serve in the military in 1956. In 1958 he became a chaplain in Smolník (Schmöllnitz), in 1960 he moved to Veľká nad Ip nachom , in 1961 to Hodejov and in 1964 again to Smolník. After a short assignment as a spiritualist in the seminary in Bratislava, he became a chaplain in Hnúšťa (Nusten) in 1968 and in Jaklovce (Jakelsdorf) in 1970 . In 1977 he took over the parish administration in Dolná Strehová and in 1982 the administration of Gemerská Poloma .
After three decades as a chaplain and provisional parish in rural and small urban communities in communist Czechoslovakia , he was appointed administrator of the Rožňava diocese by Pope John Paul II in 1990 after the Soft Revolution . John Paul II appointed him bishop of Rožňava (Rosenau) on February 14, 1990.
The episcopal ordination donated him to the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Cardinal Jozef Tomko , on 18 March 1990; Co- consecrators were Ján Sokol , Archbishop of Trnava , and Ján Chryzostom Korec SJ , Bishop of Nitra .
In 2003 he was the host of Pope John Paul II on his visit abroad to Slovakia in Rožňava. In 2007 he founded a memorial for John Paul II and Paul Hnilica in Rožňava. On December 27, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
Kojnok died on October 27, 2011.
