Šarovce (Hungarian Barssáró or Sáró ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 1597 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Levice within the Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The community is located in the Danube Hills (part of the Slovak Danube lowlands ) on the right bank of the Hron . The center of the village is at an altitude of 146 m nm and is seven kilometers from Želiezovce and 20 kilometers from Levice .
Administratively, Šarovce is divided into the municipal parts Šarovce and Veselá.
history
The present municipality was created in 1943 through the merger of the places Malé Šarovce (Hungarian Kissáró ) and Veľké Šarovce (Hungarian Nagysáró ). 1958 was added the place Veselé (Hungarian Veszele ), which was previously part of the municipality of Turá .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1075 as Saroufalu (other sources only speak of 1245).
Until 1918/1919 the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was once again in Hungary from 1938-45.

- Classicist Church of the Guardian Angels from 1847, built on the site of a Gothic church from the 13th century
