history
Today's municipality was created in 1960 through the merger of the previously independent places Trhyňa (until 1948 in Slovak "Trgyňa"; in Hungarian Tergenye ) and Veľký Pesek (in Hungarian Nagypeszek ).
The two sub-towns were first mentioned in writing in 1307 as Tergenye and 1295 as Pescech and initially belonged to different nobles, then to the Želiezovce estate. In 1828 there were 83 houses and 497 inhabitants in both places.
Until 1918/1919 the places in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia, or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1944 they were again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .
From 1986 to 1992 the Sikenica municipality was part of the town of Želiezovce.
