Hronské Kľačany (until 1948 Slovak "Kľačany"; German Klatschan , Hungarian Garamkelecsény ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 1401 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Levice , part of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the north-eastern part of the Slovak lowlands in a floodplain of the Hron and its "canal" Perec not far from the foothills of the Schemnitz Mountains . The municipal area is 788 ha in size, mostly used for agriculture and largely flat with average heights of 162 m nm to 167 m nm , but in the east it has a portion of the hill Kusá hora ( 225 m nm ). The center of the village is at an altitude of 163 m nm and is five kilometers from Levice .
Neighboring communities are Starý Tekov in the west and north, Podlužany in the east and Levice and Horná Seč in the south.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1209 as villa Chelecen and in the Middle Ages it was part of the estate of Persch Castle in today's Starý Tekov. In 1489, however, it became part of the estate of Castle Lewenz . In 1828 there were 83 houses and 550 inhabitants, most of whom were employed in agriculture.
Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, there were 1463 inhabitants in Hronské Kľačany, of which 1429 were Slovaks, seven Magyars and one Moravian and one Czech; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 24 residents gave no information in this regard. 1337 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 15 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Bahaitum, the Greek Catholic Church and the Reformed Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 62 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.

Infrastructure
There is a kindergarten and a primary school in the municipality of Hronské Kľačany. In terms of traffic, the place can be reached via a junction of the national road 564 ( Štúrovo –Levice– Tlmače ) and via the Hronské Kľačany stop on the Nové Zámky – Zvolen railway line .
