history
The present municipality was created in 1951 through the merger of the previously independent villages Dolné Devičany (until 1948 "Dolný Prandorf"; German Unterprandorf , Hungarian Alsóbaka - until 1892 Alsótótbaka ) and Horné Devičany (until 1948 "Horný Prandorf"; German Oberprandorf , Hungarian Felsőbaka - until 1892 Felsőtótbaka ), which still form the two cadastral parishes of the municipality.
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1075 in a document of the Hronský Beňadik Abbey as Baka . The main source of income has been agriculture since the beginning, but there was a mining tradition for centuries until around 1775, with the extraction of gold and silver ores.
Probably around the middle of the 16th century the village was named Prandorf and was later divided into Ober- and Unterprandorf.
Until 1918, the places in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
