Tekovské Lužany (until 1948 in Slovak "Tekovské Šarluhy" - until 1927 "Veľké Šarluhy"; in Hungarian Nagysalló ) is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located in the Danube lowlands on the Lužianka river , 12 km from the town of Želiezovce .

Catholic Church

The place was first mentioned in 1156 as Surlou and belonged to the Archdiocese of Gran . It had been a town since the 16th century. In 1845 she got market rights . In the course of the revolutions of 1848/49 , one of the greatest battles between the Hungarian Honvéden and imperial troops occurred near the town on April 19, 1849.

Until 1918/19 it belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary in Bars County , after which it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration , it belonged again to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993. In 1948 the place name was changed to "Tekovské Lužany" like many others in the area due to the linguistic proximity of the name to Hungary.

In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes Tekovské Lužianky and Hulvinky (both incorporated in 1965).

There is a baroque church of St. Stephen from 1745, a baroque column of the Trinity (1755), a reformed church from (1784), a neoclassical, originally baroque fort (17th century) and a war memorial (1876) in the village ).
