history

This family was first mentioned in the city of Esztergom , where Herbort and Ibor, Stephen's sons, lived in a palace. Stephen came from the city of Esztergom and also had a country seat in the Lišov rule, which he received from King Bela IV in 1235 . Ibor married Vralhala, the daughter of Comes Gregorius Zsembery, one of the richest nobles in Hont County .

Ibor's son, Magister Stephanus Deméndi de Theszéri, was a successful general under Matthäus Csák . He was very deserving there, so that he received many rulers from him, including the Visk Castle in Vyškovce nad Ipľom , which was built by Matthäus Csák. Stephanus led campaigns in Beršen (Hungarian: Börzsöny or Nagybörzsöny, German: Deutschpilsen) because there was a large number of silver mines there. In 1312 he devastated the Leľa rule and besieged Bujak Castle in 1313. The siege was unsuccessful because King Charles I Robert carried out a surprise attack and captured Stephen, who later escaped. The great political influence was short-lived, as Matthäus Csák lost to King Charles I. Robert. Somehow Stephen managed to get an amnesty and he was allowed to keep his dominions. Stephen built the church in Demandice in 1317 .

Stephen's son was Peter Déméndi de Theszéri, who was mentioned as a lawyer. His son Laszlo Déméndi was an important court chancellor under King Ludwig the Great and Emperor Sigismund . Laszlo Déméndi held numerous high state positions. Since the family was very respected by Emperor Sigismund, he gave him numerous dominions in Dvorníky , Drážovce, Hýbec, Godrog, Hontianske Tesáre , Klastava, Merovce, Súdovce and Pravotice. Overall, the family had possessions with an area of 575 km². This was the height of their power, they are called a small kingdom.

In the 16th century the lands were threatened by the Turkish wars . In addition, the family had no male offspring and was therefore threatened with extinction. One of the heiresses of the huge dominions was Elisabeth Déméndi de Theszéri, who married three times. The line died out in the male line, but was continued in the female line in other noble families, such as the Ürmenyi, Gedey, Pomothy , Kürthy and Grassalkovich .
