history
The origin of the Slovak National Museum lies in the Museum of Matica slovenská and in the Museum of the National House in Martin , which founded the Slovak museology . The first permanent exhibition was opened in Martin in 1908, it combined archeology, ethnography, history, numismatics, art and scientific collections. The Slovak Museum of Local History was founded in Bratislava in 1924. In the same year, the Czechoslovak Agricultural Museum in Prague opened a branch in Bratislava. In 1940 both museums were combined to form the Slovak Museum. With the merger of the Slovak Museum and the Slovak National Museum in Martin in 1961, the Slovak National Museum with its seat in Bratislava was created.
