The house Zum Goldenen Adler is located on the market square of the old town of Weißenburg in Bavaria in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . Originally the Zum Weißen Adler brewery was located here . The building with the postal address Marktplatz 5 is registered under monument number 5-77-177-262 as a monument in the Bavarian monument list.

history

The core of the building was built in the 16th century as a half-timbered building with an adjoining half-timbered rear house. The two-storey house with gable ends was rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century and received its massive front with natural stone on the ground floor and the corner pilasters .

Brewing rights had been granted to the house since the 16th century . This brewery was originally called Zum Weißen Adler . The oldest owner known by name is the baker Hans Kantner from Solnhofen, mentioned in 1589. The time of the renaming to Zum Goldenen Adler is not exactly documented, but the name of the present-day establishment is documented as early as 1801. The brewery and the inn are often referred to simply as zum Adler . In 1881, Christian Carl Pflaumer (1827–1883), the owner of the Zum Königin Löwen brewery , also bought the “Golden Eagle” and continued to run it as a restaurant and hotel . It is still owned by the family today.
