Jaylen Hoard (born March 30, 1999 in Le Havre ) is a French basketball player who is under contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA .
career
Youth and college
Hoard's French mother Katia Foucade was a French national basketball player, his American father Antwon played as a professional basketball player in France for years. His godfather James Wade and his godmother Edwige Lawson-Wade were also professional basketball players. His sister Anaia was a French youth national player in basketball. Hoard grew up in Carnon in the Occitania region of southern France .
He initially played in the youth of Besançon Basket Comté Doubs, in the 2015/16 season Hoard was promoted at the French youth training center INSEP , then moved to his father's home country in 2016 at the Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point ( North Carolina ), where he played under coach Keith Gatlin . In 2018, Hoard moved from Wesleyan Christian Academy to Wake Forest University , his coach being Danny Manning . Hoard only stayed one year with the college team from the first NCAA division and scored an average of 13.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per encounter in 31 missions. In April 2019 he announced his move to the professional camp.
NBA
In the draft process of the NBA June 2019, the Frenchman was not taken, but signed shortly thereafter a "Two-Way Contract" ( Zweiwegvertrag) with the Portland Trail Blazers , who gave him alongside stakes in the NBA, the game way in the development league NBA G-League procured. Hoard started the 2019/20 game year with the Texas Legends in the G-League, and in November 2019 he made his first NBA appearance for Portland.
National team
With France's U16 selection, he took part in the 2015 European Championship, and at the U17 World Championship in 2016, Hoard was the second best scorer in the tournament with a points average of 22.4 per match.
