Rodney Michael Hood (born October 20, 1992 in Meridian , Mississippi ) is an American basketball player who has been under contract with the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) since 2019 .
college
Hood initially played for Mississippi State University , but moved to Duke University after his freshman season . He had to skip his second year due to the college change. Hood also only played for the Duke Blue Devils for a year before signing up for the NBA draft . In his only season for Duke, he scored 16.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
NBA
In the run-up to the draft, Hood was considered a potential lottery pick (Top 14). However, he was selected in the NBA Draft 2014 only 23rd by the Utah Jazz . Hood only played 50 of 82 games due to recurring injury problems, scoring 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. In his second NBA year, Hood established himself as a starter and was called up to the NBA All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge . He finished the 2015/16 season greatly improved with 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 79 games.
After two more seasons with the Jazz, Hood was transferred from the Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team transfer in February 2018 . In return, Jae Crowder moved to Utah. A year later, Hood was passed on to the Portland Trail Blazers for Nik Stauskas and Wade Baldwin . At the Blazers he suffered a serious injury to the Achilles tendon in the game against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 6, 2019 , so that he is out for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
