Nikolas Tomas "Nik" Stauskas (born October 7, 1993 in Mississauga , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian- Lithuanian basketball player who currently plays for Saski Baskonia Vitoria in Spain .
High school and college
Stauskas grew up as the son of Lithuanian immigrants in Canada. At the age of 16 he moved to the USA and played for American school teams in Connecticut (South Kent School) and Massachusetts (St. Mark's School). After graduating, he played for the University of Michigan . In his first year he reached the final of the NCAA at the side of Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, Jr. , but where the University of Louisville had to admit defeat. After Burke and Hardaway moved to the NBA, Stauskas became the Wolverines' new lead player . Thanks to his new role, he finished his sophomore college year with an average of 17.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He hit 44 percent of his throws from the three-point line . At the end of the season he announced his move to the NBA.
NBA
In the 2014 NBA draft , Stauskas was selected eighth by the Sacramento Kings . In his first NBA season Stauskas scored 4.4 points on average and was able to establish himself in the rotation of the Kings.
During the 2015 summer break, Stauskas and two other players were transferred from the Kings to the Philadelphia 76ers , where he posted a decent value of 9.5 points per match in the 2016/17 season, and in 2017 together with Jahlil Okafor as part of a swap from the Philadelphia 76ers given to the Brooklyn Nets . In Brooklyn he was much less effective than in Philadelphia.
In the summer break of 2018, Stauskas signed a one-year contract with the Portland Trail Blazers , but remained a supplementary player there as well as with the Cleveland Cavaliers , for whom he played from February 2019.
Spain
At the beginning of August 2019, the Spanish first division team Saski Baskonia Vitoria announced his commitment.
National team
Stauskas played at the U16 American Basketball Championship in 2009 and the U16 World Basketball Championship in 2010 for the Canadian national basketball team . In the summer of 2015, Stauskas made his debut at the American Basketball Championship for the men's national team of Canada and won the bronze medal with her.
