Mario Hezonja (born February 25, 1995 in Dubrovnik , Croatia ) is a Croatian basketball player . The 203 cm tall Hezonja plays for the Portland Trail Blazers in the North American professional league NBA .

Career

In 2011 Hezonja won the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Tournament with Zagreb , together with Dario Šarić .

In July 2012, Hezonja signed a three-year deal with Barcelona, ​​with an option for an additional four years. During the 2012/13 season he played in the second team, which participates in the second Spanish division. In the same year he was nominated for the FIBA Europe Young Men's Player of the Year Award .

In 2014 he won the Spanish championship with Barcelona. In the 2014-15 season he also made his breakthrough in Barcelona. He was used in 22 Euroleague games and scored 7.7 points per game.

In the 2015 NBA draft , he was selected by the Orlando Magic in 5th place. Hezonja left Barcelona and immediately moved to Magic, where he signed a contract on July 10, 2015. Hezonja's rookie season was mixed. However, he was able to flash his talent a few times. On March 21, 2016, when Magic beat the Chicago Bulls , he achieved his season record of 21 points. He finished the season with 6.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Hezonja was elected MVP of the 2011 U16 European Championship. On the occasion of the 2014 World Basketball Championship , he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time .
