Dario Šarić (born April 8, 1994 in Šibenik , Croatia ) is a Croatian basketball player . He is currently under contract with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA .
Youth player in Croatia
The then 17-year-old already attracted attention in 2011 at the Euroleague basketball Nike International Junior Tournament . He won the cup with KK Zagreb and was elected MVP of the tournament. In 2012 he was invited to the Nike Hoop Summit and led a junior world selection to victory over an American junior selection. He scored 13 points, got 14 rebounds and distributed five basket assists.
After a failed move to Bilbao Basket , he signed with KK Cibona in autumn 2012 .
It was speculated that Šarić would sign up for the 2013 NBA draft . After signing up, however, shortly before the draft, he withdrew his application to stay in Croatia for another season.
With Cibona, he won the national cup in 2013 and was named the best player in the final. He also won the championship of the Adriatic Basketball League with Cibona and was named MVP of the season and the final tournament . He brought it in the league to 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He was also awarded the FIBA Europe Young Men's Player of the Year Award 2013 .
Šarić signed up again for the NBA draft in 2014 . He did not withdraw this time, but signed a three-year contract with Anadolu Efes SK a few days before the draft . This made an early move to the NBA impossible.
NBA
In the 2014 NBA draft , Šarić was selected twelfth by the Orlando Magic . However, his rights were transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers for Elfrid Payton shortly thereafter .
In the summer of 2016, Šarić signed a contract with the 76ers. In his first year of play in Philadelphia he scored an average of 12.8 points per game in 81 main round appearances and increased this value in the 2017/18 season when he recorded 14.6 points per game. In November 2018, it was transferred from Philadelphia to NBA competitor Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a player swap.
National team
Šarić played for Croatia in the U-16 European Championship in 2010. He led his team to the title and was then named best player of the tournament. He scored 24.3 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game, which he led the tournament in points and rebounds and was second in the assists.
In 2011 he took part in the U-19 basketball world championship and finished eighth with Croatia.
In 2012 he won the U-18 basketball championship with Croatia and was then elected MVP of the tournament. He led the tournament with 25.9 points per game, he also got the second most rebounds with 10.1 per game. In the final he scored 39 points against Lithuania .
At the European Championship 2013 Šarić reached fourth place with the Croatian team .
