Mikal Bridges (born August 30, 1996 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player .

career

Bridges played basketball as a student at Great Valley High School in Malvern near Philadelphia . In his first season at Villanova University Bridges took part in the practice operation, but has not yet played a game for the university team. In the following years he developed steadily and became a top performer, among other things, thanks to his hit safety when throwing from distance and as a persistent defender. In the 2015/16 game year, when he won the championship title in the first division of the NCAA for the first time with Villanova , he mostly contributed to the triumph coming from the bench. At the beginning of the 2016/17 game year he was regularly in the starting line-up, in the 2017/18 season Bridges was one of the main people responsible for his team to win the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship again. During the 2017/18 season, he hit 43.5 percent of his three-point throws (104 of 239), excelled as a good defender and, with an average of 17.7 points, was Villanova's second best scorer.

In April 2018, he announced that he would be leaving Villanova University, switching to the professional camp and enrolling for the NBA draft process . The NBA team from his hometown, the Philadelphia 76ers , secured the rights to Bridges in the draft. He was the tenth player to be called up in the process in June 2018. However, the 76ers Bridges gave up to the Phoenix Suns that same evening and received Zhaire Smith in return .
