Deandre Edoneille Ayton (born July 23, 1998 in Nassau ) is a Bahamian basketball player who has been under contract with the Phoenix Suns in the US professional league NBA since 2018 .

career

Ayton grew up in Nassau on the Caribbean island of Bahamas . He lived there in a two-room apartment with his mother, stepfather and four siblings. At the age of twelve he was eight feet tall and was noticed by talent scouts at a basketball camp. As a seventh grader, he moved to San Diego in the United States and attended Balboa City School. This step was made possible by an American named Shaun Manning, who supported Ayton financially. In 2015 he moved to Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix . He developed into one of the greatest talents and was ranked number one in several US media junior rankings in his year.

college

Ayton decided to continue his basketball career at university level after leaving school and accepted a scholarship from the University of Arizona . In his first and only year in the university team of the University of Arizona, he made 35 appearances and closed the 2017/18 season with an average of 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds, and he also blocked an average of 1.9 opposing throws per encounter and prepared 1.6 basket sets for his fellow men. He was named Player of the Year in the Pac-12 division and best power forward of the season in all college basketball .

NBA

After a year at the University of Arizona to Ayton decided to switch to the professional and for the draft process of the NBA to sign in June 2018th There he was selected in first position by the Phoenix Suns . In the 2018/19 game year he was used in 71 games and averages 16.3 points and 10.3 rebounds . In late October 2019, Ayton was suspended for 25 games for violating the NBA's doping rules after traces of an unacceptable diuretic was found. His suspension expired in mid-December 2019, in his first game the Bahamian suffered an ankle injury and therefore missed the next five games.
