Tyler Quincy Dorsey ( Greek Τάιλερ Κουίνσι Ντόρσεϊ , * 18th February 1996 in Pasadena , California ) is an US-American - Greek basketball player who at a height of 1.96 m of primarily on the positions point guard or the shooting guard used becomes.

Career

At club level

Dorsey first played high school basketball at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower . He spent his senior year at Maranatha High, a local high school in his hometown of Pasadena . There he averaged 34.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game. In total, he had earned 17 double doubles and one triple double in his senior season . For this he was awarded the Gatorade State Player of the Year Award for California .

Dorsey, who was courted by several universities, decided to study at the University of Oregon . There he played under the direction of coach Dana Altman for the Oregon Ducks . With these he reached in his freshman season (debut season) 2015/16 , the final of the Pacific-12 Conference in which the Ducks had prevailed with 88:57 points against the selection of the University of Utah . For his achievements Dorsey was appointed to the Pac-12's all-freshman team and also to the Pac-12 all-tournament team . With this victory, the team qualified for the national university championship also known as March Madness . The Ducks played their way up to the finals in Region West, the so-called Elite Eight . There they filed with the Oklahoma Sooners with 68:80 points and were eliminated in the competition for the championship that the Villanova Wildcats had subsequently earned. In 38 games played, Dorsey was used in 36 games and was on the starting line-up of the Ducks 35 times. He had to sit out two games due to injury. On average, he achieved 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Also in his sophomore season , Dorsey reached the final of the Pac-12 Conference with the Ducks, but this time the selection led by him and Dillon Brooks was defeated by the Arizona Wildcats with 80:83 points. Dorsey was once again considered for his achievements in the Pac-12 all-tournament team . In the following university championship, the team played its way up to the final Final Four of the tournament that the Ducks had previously reached, most recently 78 years ago (1939). In the round of the last four, the University of Oregon selected the North Carolina Tar Heels in front of 77,612 spectators at the University of Phoenix Stadium , which they lost with 76:77 points. In the five completed games of the Ducks at March Madness , Dorsey was the most successful thrower of his team. He was able to finish all these games with 20 + x points, which brought him to an average of 23.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Over the whole season, the Guard brought it in 39 games, of which he was in the starting line-up in all games, on 14.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Immediately after his team left, Dorsey announced that he would not play a third year for the Ducks, but instead would sign up for the 2017 NBA Draft . In this he was then picked in the second round by the Atlanta Hawks .

National team

With the Greek U-19 selection, Dorsey took part in the 2015 World Junior Championship. There he earned an average of 15.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in seven games. For these achievements he was voted into the best five team of the tournament.

In the summer of 2016 he was appointed to the senior squad by national coach Fotis Katsikaris . He made his debut on June 23, 2016 in a friendly match against the Turkish national team, which the Greeks won with 78:52 points.

Tyler Dorsey, son of Jerrid and Samia Dorsey (née Konstantinidou), has both US citizenship and Greek citizenship due to his maternal Greek roots.
