Dennis Cliff Smith Jr. (born November 25, 1997 in Godwin , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player who is under contract with the New York Knicks in the NBA .

Career

Smith spent his childhood and youth in North Carolina, where he grew up to be one of the best point guards in the country. After his high school career, he moved to the local North Carolina State University , where he played for the Wolfpack . In his freshman -year Smith came to 18.1 points 4.6 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game, which he in the NCAA for ACC Freshman of the Year of the Atlantic Coast Conference was excellent. Smith decided after his freshman year of college to leave the Wolfpack and enroll in the NBA draft .

NBA

He was selected ninth in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks . Smith had a solid 2018/19 rookie season and was elected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team following the season .

In January 2019 Smith was traded to the New York Knicks .
