Ignas Brazdeikis (born January 8, 1999 ) is a Canadian basketball player of Lithuanian origin.
career
Brazdeikis was born in Lithuania, his parents' homeland. The family first emigrated to Chicago in the United States and then moved to Winnipeg, Canada, and later within the country to the province of Ontario .
Brazdeikis played for the Orangeville Prep team in Canada; other well-known graduates are Jamal Murray and Thon Maker . In September 2017, he announced his decision to play for the University of Michigan in the USA under coach John Beilein from the 2018/19 season . In 2018 he took part in the Nike Hoop Summit talent show as a member of the world selection . Brazdeikis only spent one playing year at the University of Michigan: He was used in 37 games in 2018/19 and was always in the starting line-up. Brazdeikis scored an average of 14.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
In April 2019, he announced his move to professional business. The Sacramento Kings secured the rights to the winger in the NBA draft process in June 2019 in 47th place and then handed him over to the New York Knicks .
National team
Brazdeikis participated with the national teams of Canada in the U16 American Championship in 2015 and the U17 World Championship in 2016. At the U17 World Cup he was the second best thrower in the Canadian selection behind RJ Barrett with 14.7 points per game .
