Mitchell Robinson (born April 1, 1998 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American basketball player who currently plays for the New York Knicks in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

career

Robinson played in adolescence at Pine Forest High School in Pensacola , Florida and Chalmette High School in Chalmette , Louisiana . He accepted the college team at Texas A&M University , but withdrew after their coach Rick Stansbury announced his move to Western Kentucky University . Robinson decided to follow Stansbury and play for Western Kentucky.

In the run-up to the 2017/18 season, Robinson was suspended for violating the team's internal rules, then sought a team change, but returned to Western Kentucky in late August. In September 2018, Robinson announced that he would no longer play at university level and instead prepare himself for a professional career and aim to participate in the NBA draft process in June 2018. There the New York Knicks secured the rights to Robinson in the second selection round in a total of 36th place.

NBA

Robinson finished his first season in the NBA with an average of 7.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks at 20.6 minutes per encounter. On May 21, 2019, Robinson was the only player from the second draft round of his class to be awarded the NBA All-Rookie Second Team .

On January 1, 2020, Robinson set the club record for the most hits without a failed attempt in the game against the Portland Trail Blazers with eleven hits in eleven throws. He shares the record with Bernard King (January 19, 1984) and Johnny Newman (January 6, 1988). Wilt Chamberlain holds the league record with 18 hits in 18 throws (February 24, 1967).

In the 2019/2020 season , Robinson set the record for the highest hit rate within a season with 74.2%. This exceeded the previous record of 72.7% set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1973.
