Siegfried Wendt (economist)

Siegfried Wendt (born November 5, 1901 in Hamburg , † April 24, 1966 in Göttingen ) was a German economist .

Wendt was born the son of a senior councilor of the Reichsdruckerei and went to school in Düsseldorf and Perleberg until he graduated in 1920. From the summer semester of 1920 he studied in Berlin and Freiburg i. B. Law and political science, history and philosophy up to his doctorate in 1924. From 1925 he was an assistant and in 1930 he qualified as a professor in economics and finance at the Mannheim University of Commerce . After its dissolution, he was taken on as a lecturer at the University of Heidelberg , where he was ao. Professor title received. In 1938/39 he was appointed to Göttingen, where he was promoted to full professor in early 1943. In autumn 1943 he became full professor of economics at the University of Giessen , but was dismissed by the military government in 1945. At the same time he did military service from 1940 to 1944.

From 1949 he was deputy head of the Evangelical Social Academy Friedewald and began teaching again. From 1951/52 he held a substitute professorship, in 1954 he worked as a professor at the University of Labor, Politics and Economics in Wilhelmshaven , and from 1962 again at the University of Göttingen . In Wilhelmshaven he was rector of the university from 1956/57 and from 1961 until it moved to Göttingen in April 1962. In 1953 and 1955 he taught as a guest in Istanbul . Wendt holds an honorary doctorate from the Theological Faculty of the University of Münster (1961).
