Kaproff grew up as the son of a well-known studio musician and cellist in Los Angeles and came into contact with music at an early age. After studying at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and Berkeley (UCB), he studied classical composition with well-known contemporary composers such as George Tremblay , Andrew Imbrie and Paul Chihara.
Since the mid-1990s, he has been composing mainly for television films and documentaries for well-known US television stations and cable networks such as CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, HBO, Showtime, PBS, Lifetime, Paramount, Universal, Columbia-Tristar, Time Warner, National Geographic , USA Networks as well as for the Entertainment Tonight format .
In 2001 he founded the internet company audioRiot, which specializes in audio design and the background music for commercial websites and similar content. Kaproff is also active in advertising and composed music for commercials for the brands Apple, BMW, Kraft, Kyocera, Nestlé and other companies.
In addition to his work for film and television and in advertising, Kaproff has been writing his own indie rock and pop titles since 2005 and produces them under his music label Mi Myoozik Publishing. He also writes and produces for other artists; thus he composed half of the Shirley Bassey album Thank You For The Years . This was followed by collaboration with artists such as Dianne Arkenstone, Bianca Rossini, Bri Cuoco and Jon Hall.
In 2011 Kaproff moved his studio and company, Dana Kaproff Music, from his Californian home to New York City on the east coast of the United States, where he now lives and works. Occasionally he gives lectures on composition and the music business at schools and universities.
