Then Florek (born May 1, 1950 as Ezekial Dann Florek in Flat Rock , Michigan ) is an American actor and director .

Career

Florek went to Eastern Michigan University , but did not finish his studies. He eventually moved to New York to pursue a career .

Florek started out as an actor in the theater, from where he came to film in the 1980s, taking on small roles in films such as Sweet Liberty , Moon over Parador and Angel Heart . From 1988 to 1990 he played Roxanne Melman's husband Dave Meyer (played by Susan Ruttan ) in the third and fourth seasons of the NBC production LA Law .

In the NBC justice series Law & Order directed by Dick Wolf , Florek took on the role of Captain Donald "Don" Cragan . Driven by falling audience ratings, NBC asked Dick Wolf to cast more female roles in the series. After the third season, Florek was therefore replaced by S. Epatha Merkerson as Lieutenant Anita van Buren . At the same time there was a change in the assistant attorney's team, Richard Brooks in the role of Paul Robinette was replaced by Jill Hennessy as Claire Kincaid . Florek is one of the few actors who has been active in the Law & Order franchise for 23 years (as of 2013).

Since 1999, Florek has played the role of Captain Donald "Don" Cragan in Dick Wolf's Law & Order New York, as in Law & Order . Florek left the series in January 2014 during the 15th season. In May 2015 he appeared again in an episode of the 16th season.

He also played mostly minor roles in a number of films.

Others

On December 13, 2008, Dann Florek was awarded an honorary Bachelor of Arts title and an honorary doctorate in art from Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin. He also gave the main speech at this award ceremony.
