Oscar winner Emma Stone plays the title role.

development

Plans for a live action with the title Cruella were first announced in 2013 with Aline Brosh McKenna as screenwriter and producer, and Andrew Gunn as producer. Glenn Close , who embodied the title character in the two earlier real-life films, should serve as support .

According to reports from September 2015, Kelly Marcel was hired to rewrite the script by Aline Brosh McKenna. Just a few weeks later, it was reported that Steve Zissis was involved in the script work of Kelly Marcel.

On January 6, 2016, it was announced that Emma Stone was in negotiations for the lead role of Cruella de Vil.

An official announcement in August 2016 confirmed that Jez Butterworth would rewrite the script by Kelly Marcel and Aline Brosh McKenna, although his version by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara was also repainted in the years that followed.

In November 2016 it was reported that Alex Timbers was hired to direct the real-life film and that Marc Platt will take a seat as another producer.

According to reports from December 2018, Alex Timbers resigned as director due to scheduling conflicts as Disney decided to put the film into production earlier than expected. Craig Gillespie later took the position of director.

A first release date, dated December 23, 2020, was announced in early May 2018. Later that month, it was reported that Emma Thompson was in negotiations for the role of Baroness.

At the end of July 2019, Paul Walter Hauser was cast in the role of Cruella's henchman Horace. A few days later, in early August, the role of Cruella's second henchman Jasper was cast by Joel Fry . In the same month, a new release date was announced on May 28, 2021. At the D23 - Expo on August 24th, 2019, it was announced that the filming of the film had started and a first official picture of the film with Stone as Cruella, Hauser as Horace and Fry as Jasper was also revealed during the event.
