In the Valley of the Beavers is an American documentary short film directed by James Algar in 1950.

action

A piece of pristine nature has been preserved in the beaver valley in the American Rocky Mountains . The valley is dominated by the beaver who gnaws the trees to get to the branches. He uses this as building material and, as a vegetarian, also eats the bark. The beavers, who also create small canals for the transport of branches, attract more settlers in the valley, such as birds that nest in the reeds. American elk feed on former beaver ponds that are now overgrown, but deer also feel at home. Only the prairie wolf is left behind again and again, as beavers are fast swimmers, while other animals such as the bittern or the blue heron know how to camouflage themselves perfectly.

A beaver moves out in late spring to start a family of his own. He comes into unknown waters and gets to know a female beaver. A supposed rival turns out to be the son of the female, so that the male now has a finished family faster than he dreamed of. It is important to build the beaver castle and stock up on supplies before winter comes. While the birds are singing and the exuberant otters are having fun, the beaver works day and night on its burrow. The salmon come to the beaver valley in autumn to get to their spawning grounds. Regardless of this, the beaver continues to work and even when the wild geese leave the valley, he is still busy stocking up on supplies. The otters use the freshly fallen winter snow to have fun sliding parts and the beaver transports the last branch of supply into its burrow. A little later, the lakes in the land of beavers are frozen over. The beaver den is covered with a solid snow cover and the beaver and his family have enough supplies to survive the winter. Only the prairie wolf continues to roam the area and has not yet given up hope for food.
