action

Dr. Tess Coleman and her 15-year-old daughter Anna don't get along. Their views on fashion, styling, music and men are too different. Tess can't understand Anna's bad grades and repeated detention any more than Anna can understand her mother's new fiancé , Ryan. The wedding should take place on the weekend.

Something miraculous happens in a Chinese restaurant: The next night at midnight, they swap bodies with two fortune cookies from an elderly Chinese lady. Since they cannot get to the bottom of the matter immediately, they spend the Friday morning with each other's lives without letting anyone know.

While Tess goes back to school in her daughter's body and realizes that her daughter's poor English grades are the result of an old story from her high school days, Anna completely redesigns her mother's body. She spends the rest of the morning with her mother's psychological patients and is annoyed by the many calls.

You must find that the only way to reverse the spell is to keep the fortune cookie saying, through selflessness . You have to get on with the day first.

At the parenting day at her brother Harry's school, Anna learns that he doesn't hate her as much as it seems. Tess, however, realizes that her daughter's hatred of her former friend Stacey is justified. In addition, she gets to know Anna's flame better Jake, but the latter cannot get used to her behavior.

Anna presents her mother's new book on a TV show . She cleverly conceals ignorance about the content with a show that is well received. Jake finds the supposed mother much more attractive. After a conversation about music, he runs after her.

In the evening there is the hen party for the wedding the next day. Anna's bandmates Maddie and Peg need them a few blocks away for an important gig. However, your attempt to take Anna (or Tess) with you is noticeable. But Ryan doesn't turn out to be a spoilsport and allows Anna the concert. Anna in Tess's body also comes to the concert. Tess can't play guitar, but Anna takes on her part backstage, while Tess in Anna's body puts on the show.

Back on the hen party, Anna and Tess discover that their conflict issues have resolved. The fortune cookie condition is fulfilled and everyone gets their own body back.

The next day, Tess and Ryan's wedding takes place. Anna and Jake also find each other. The old Chinese woman wants to offer little Harry and his grandfather two fortune cookies, but is prevented from doing so by her daughter at the last moment.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was the third film adaptation of the same novel. He is targeting an audience around 20 years old. The film is not a “great cinema”, but it was a pleasure to watch. Berardinelli praised the "first-class" performances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

"As old-fashioned and predictable as the comedy is [...] - the astonishingly lively and funny implementation is so refreshing."

- Filmstarts.de

“'Freaky Friday' is ideal for a relaxing afternoon for the whole family. Disney has once again produced an entertaining film for young and old. "

- Celluloid-Dreams.de

"Fast-paced, funny body swap joke with two brilliantly acting leading actresses."

“An amusing and flawlessly staged comedy that combines slapstick and situation comedy, but also screaming embarrassing moments into a solidly played entertainment film. Thematically, however, the film remains on the surface and often sacrifices the balance between youthful lightheartedness and an adult sense of responsibility in favor of simple puberty jokes. "
